Report from Tom Chichester in Mongolia
June 1, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Mongolia Airport. "Mere words could not describe this first arrival into the country of Mongolia. On this very beautiful sunny day, we were greeted at the airport by many members of the press, several government officials from the Mongolian Embassy and several children waving American Flags and waving as we approached from the airport to our vehicles (from the embassy) after being brought from a VIP area of the airport and exited right to the waiting vehicles for a police escort into the city of Ulaanbaatar (the capital of Mongolia).
Tree Rollins, GM of the Kentucky Colonels, was surrounded by press as were Stephanie Roach (Kentucky Colonels owner) and myself. No doubt they were all in awe of Tree as he so professionally represented. As we drove from the airport into the city (approximately an 8 mile drive), it was just overwhelming to see police on all corners stopping traffic and people looking and waving as we entered into town. The timing of this arrival was excellent due to a very festive day of celebration for a Holiday for Children which was in effect. Thousands of people everywhere.
Upon arrival to the beautiful Ulaanbastar (UB) Hotel, we were greeted by more dignataries. Just an awesome event getting into a country of very friendly people. We are now just getting situated. We have an outdoor showing in the square at 4PM, a shoot around of sorts for the plahyers, followed by more interviews, etc. There is a complete itinerary set for the entire stay through June 6th, then returning to Beijing for a couple of days. I will try to update you daily with some highlights if time permits. This is truly one of those once in a lifetime opportunities for myself and everyone here involved. They are calling for us. Gotta run."

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
