Maywood Laguneros News Release

LONG BEACH, CA - The Long Beach Jam clinched the American Basketball Association (ABA) regular-season championship Sunday by defeating the Las Vegas Rattlers 154 - 117. The Queen classic "We are the Champions" blared through the public address system at the Long Beach Pyramid as the Jam left the floor. But there was no celebration in Long Beach. Not yet.

The Jam have one regular-season game remaining, against the Rattlers, Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Long Beach, before hosting the ABA championship game Mar. 9 at 7:30 p.m. In five tries against the Jam this season, the Rattlers have yet to notch a victory. Despite the lopsided outcomes, the teams' previous meetings have been wildly entertaining for fans. The games have been filled with highlight reel dunks, mystifying passes, and defensive stops that would make Dennis Rodman proud.

In Friday's matchup, a 146-116 Jamming of the Rattlers, Schea Cotton cruised to 31 points in the victory while Rasul Salahuddin blazed his way to 39 points in the loss. In Sunday's contest, a 154-117 Jam win, Geno Carlisle scorched the Rattlers for 42 points. In both games, the newest member of the Jam, Randy Gill, a.k.a. White Chocolate, dazzled the crowd with his no-look passes, full-court alley-oops, and three-point marksmanship (6 of 8).

The game will air on KVMD-TV. Play-by-play announcer, Geoff Witcher will call the game, while Neil Evans will be the color analyst. Witcher, with more than 25 years of television and radio broadcast experience, is best known for his work with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Anaheim Angels. KVMD-TV can be found by cable viewers on Adelphia and Charter systems in Anaheim, Santa Ana, Santa Monica and Long Beach on Channel 23. The station is also carried on satellite by DirecTV (Channel 31) and the Dish Network (Channel 8021).

Tickets are available for purchase by visiting the Long Beach State Pyramid box office, or by phone at 562-985-4949 and 888-4-JAM-TIX.
