Logan Jenuwine Named NAHL Forward of the Month

March 5, 2019 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Amarillo Bulls News Release

AMARILLO, TX - For the second straight month Amarillo Bulls forward Logan Jenuwine has been chosen as the North American Hockey League's Bauer Hockey Forward of The Month.

The 6'2/195 lbs. native of Romeo, Michigan, once again led all NAHL players in scoring in February as he recorded 18 points in eight games, which included nine goals and nine assists. Jenuwine had five multi-point games during the month, which included a five-goal game on February 1st.

After playing in the 2019 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament for the South Division team, Jenuwine made his commitment to play NCAA Division I hockey to Arizona State on February 27th. He currently leads the NAHL in scoring with 85 points in just 48 games played, which includes 47 goals. His 47 goals this season ranks 5th all-time in NAHL history as he sits just eight goals behind the NAHL single-season record of 55 with 11 games to play.

"Logan has continued to be a leader for us in all situations. His offensive productivity is a result of his compete level and desire to help our team succeed. He is playing some of his best hockey right now and helping our team prepare for the Robertson Cup Playoffs," said Bulls head coach Rocky Russo.

"February was pretty memorable. Top Prospects was just an awesome experience and I had a great time. It was a cool experience to play with guys that you battle against all season long and for our division to go 2-0 at the event is something we will remember for a long time. As for the Bulls, we still are focused on trying to win as many games as we can and go into the playoffs playing our best hockey," said Jenuwine. "I think committing to Arizona State was a dream come true and I think it's a perfect fit for me. I had a great visit there, they have a beautiful campus, and they are a team that is already an NCAA title contender just a couple years after establishing an NCAA program, so all that made for an easy decision for me."

Defenseman Brendan Datema was a runner-up for the NAHL Defenseman of the Month, while goaltender Jason Grande was nominated for Goaltender of the Month as well.

Meantime, new goal scoring records are expected to be established when the Amarillo Bulls visit the Lone Star Brahmas at NYTEX Sports Center this weekend.

Jenuwine, who has an eight-point lead in the North American Hockey League scoring race, has an opportunity to establish a single season mark for most goals by an Amarillo hockey player junior or professional.

He currently has 47 goals and needs just one to tie Chris Brooks and two to establish a new mark. No Amarillo hockey player has ever hit the 50-goal plateau before. Brooks, who is currently an Assistant Coach with Michigan Tech University, scored 48 in 61 games during the 1998-99 season with the Rattlers when the team was a member of the former Western Professional Hockey League (WPHL). Two seasons earlier, Brooks posted 45 goals on a team that won just 17 games that season. Brooks admitted that he could have scored more goals but was dealing with an injury during that 1998-99 campaign.

Jenuwine's hattrick over the weekend in Topeka propelled him three ahead of former Amarillo Rattlers/Gorillas forward Dorian Anneck who was in second place with 44 goals. Among the other leaders in goal scoring in Amarillo Hockey History are former Amarillo Gorillas forwards David Nimmo (41), Scott Wray (38), Bill Vandemeer (37), Henry Kuster (36) and Derek Hahn (35).

In terms of Amarillo Bulls' history, Jenuwine is tied with Tyler Gernhofer with 47 goals and can move ahead of George Mika into third place all time. However Gernhofer and Mika accomplished their totals in well over 130 plus games in a Bulls uniform.

Mike Davis is the all time point leader in an Amarillo Bulls uniform with 145 in 162 games played. TJ Sarcona, who has appeared in more game than any other Bulls' player, is second in career points with 140. Both of those Alumni now call the Southern Professional Hockey League home with the Birmingham Bulls and Pensacola Ice Flyer, respectively.

Fans can tune into the action of the Bulls and the Lone Star Brahmas, in the resumption of the Battle Of The Cattle Series this Friday and Saturday beginning with the Fit Omni Warm Up Show at 7:05 pm on 107.1 Nash Icon, www.amarillobulls.com and on PPV with Hockey TV.
