Loewen Posts Third Consecutive Shutout in 4-0 Win

The Columbus Cottonmouths used a sparkling performance by Andrew Loewen to take down the Bloomington Thunder, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Columbus' 4-0 shutout victory.

The Cottonmouths were paced by Neilsson Arcibal, who tallied one goal and one assist. Arcibal scored 2:32 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Columbus.

Columbus was often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The Cottonmouths surpassed its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game. Columbus' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Bloomington power plays. The Cottonmouths was steadier on the defensive front than they have been for much of this season. Columbus allows 3.0 goals per game. With 31 shots on target during the contest, the Cottonmouths exceeded the 27.6 shots they average per game this year.

Others who scored for Columbus included Tom Maldonado, Preston Shupe, and Dan Bremner, who scored one goal each. In addition, Columbus received assists from Will Aide, who had two and Steve Mele, Sam Bowles, and Seth Ronsberg, who each chipped in one.

The Bloomington penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. The Thunder had been averaging 26.0 minutes in penalties per game. Bloomington did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Thunder average 2.3 goals per game. Bloomington put 27 shots on net during the contest, more than the 19.2 it averages per game.

The Thunder were led by Mike Henderson, who took seven shots.

Columbus' Loewen stopped 27 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Cottonmouths registered one goal on six power play opportunities. For Columbus, Alex Gallant was ejected from the game. Breton Lindoff made 27 saves for Bloomington on 31 shots. The Thunder ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Harry Mahesh was ejected from the game.
