Amarillo Dillas News Release

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas Baseball Club announced this afternoon that they have reached an agreement with the New York Yankees to purchase the contractual right of INF Trent Lockwood. After several weeks of negotiations, the two teams agreed upon undisclosed terms which will send Lockwood to the Yankees spring training facilities, in Tampa Florida.

A native of Waco Texas, Lockwood was originally signed by the Amarillo Dillas as undrafted unrestricted free agent on June 9, 2009. The 64 235-pound first baseman appeared in 78 games hitting 15 doubles and 5 triples to go along with his 14 home runs while posting a .315 batting average and slugging .541, in 289 plate appearances.

Lockwood proved his worth not only at the plate but also in the field giving Amarillo their first solid corner-man in four years. Trent provided us with tremendous power at the plate but the one thing you wont see on any stat sheet was he ability to play a solid first base, Dillas Field Manager Brady Bogart said. It was comforting to know that when we threw the ball across the diamond it was going to be caught, it had been a while since weve had that luxury.

Lockwood is the first player to sign with a major league club since, former Dillas third baseman, Gary Schneidmiller signed with the San Diego Padres after the 2007 season. The signing of Lockwood is the first player from the back-to-back United League Champions to move onto affiliated baseball.

In unrelated business, the Amarillo Dillas also announced today that they have exercised the 2010 Club Option on all 22 players on the current roster including RHP Taylor Allen, RHP Albert Ayala, OF Anthony Bennett, INF Eric Brown, C Brian Bueno, INF Willie James, RHP Richard Jessup, INF/DH Carlos Figueroa, LHP Coby Mavroulis, OF Terrance McClain, RHP Andy Noonan, LHP Justin Phillips, INF Angel Reyes, RHP Ralph Roberts, LHP Jessie Rodriguez, OF Keanon Simon, RHP Matt Smith, OF Stantrel Smith, LHP Dustin Taylor, C Justin Wenger, RHP Robbie Wooley, and INF Andrew Wong. By exercising the Club Option, the Amarillo Dillas have extended the contractual rights to the above players however, that does not guarantee that every player will return for next year.
