Rochester Knighthawks News Release
(Rochester, October 28)... Tennis great Andre Aggasi was correct when he said, "Image is everything." That is especially true if you play a professional sport for your hometown team. On Friday morning, Rochester native Joe Walters and Webster native Grant Catalino did their part to get the image of the Rochester Knighthawks out into the community.
The two local lacrosse stars posed for photos to help the team prepare for a marketing blitz that will hit the Rochester area in November. That month, the team will return to the city to hold two weekends of Training Camp.
"It means the start of the season and the Knighthawks are back," said fourth-year pro Walters. "As players, there is a lot to do off the field as well. We are trying to spread the message and get more involved in the community."
Walters starred at Irondequoit High School, while Catalino was the Democrat and Chronicle Player of the Year during his senior season at Webster Schroeder. Both enjoyed successful college careers at the University of Maryland and are now members of the Knighthawks. For Catalino, a 2011 draft pick, this was his first opportunity to wear the team jersey and shorts of his favorite team.
"It was fun. It gets us out into the community and gets our image out there whether it's us or our pictures," said Catalino. "Photo shoots are always fun."
In a month, the Knighthawks will hold their annual Training Camp at Total Sports Experience in Gates. The images will appear at the multi-sport facility and around Monroe County. Walters sees the advertising elements as a way to inspire the next generation of local lacrosse stars.
"Grant and I have worked hard to get to the professional level," he said. "If kids see our images, maybe it will convince them to have the same goals we had as kids and allow them to reach this level."
Fans can see the team in action on Saturday, December 17th, as the Knighthawks host a home preseason against the Minnesota Swarm at 7:00 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena. Tickets for the game are FREE and available at the Knighthawks Office. For more information or to purchase season tickets, call (585) 454-HAWK (4295).
