Lobsters clinch playoff spot

July 23, 2008 - World TeamTennis (WTT)
Boston Lobsters News Release

The Boston Lobsters are heading back to the WTT playoffs! A late-season surge which saw the Lobsters win four of their last six matches have earned them the Wild Card position at the World TeamTennis Championship Weekend in Roseville, California. They will play against the Sacramento Capitals on Thursday night.

"All season long our goal was to reach the playoffs, and we clinched on the last day," first-year head coach Tim Mayotte said. "We're thrilled to be here. Remember, the Red Sox were a Wild Card team when they won the World Series in 2004."

If the Lobsters get by the Capitals, they'll play the top-seeded Kansas City Explorers on Friday. The winner of that match will play for the championship on Sunday.

This is the second time the Boston Lobsters made it to the WTT Championship weekend. In 2005, the Lobsters finished second in the Eastern Conference before losing in the WTT semifinals.
