COLUMBUS, GA (May 7, 2011) - After falling behind early in the 1st quarter, the Columbus Lions (7-1) rallied off 35 straight first half points and never looked back in a 81-32 victory over the Fayetteville Force (3-5) now losers of five straight.

After Fayetteville went ahead early in the 1st quarter with a Roger Williams 14 yard interception return for a touchdown, the high-octane Columbus Lions offense went in full gear as receiver Gerald Gales caught his first of two touchdowns on a 20-yard hook-up from Chris McCoy tying the game up at 8.

McCoy clocked in with another stellar passing performance logging 12 of 22 passes for 154 yards and five touchdowns as receiver Gerald Gales was once again the top target hauling in eight passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns. Over the past two weeks Gales has brought down seven touchdown receptions as the offense continued their month long stretch in which the club has now won five straight.

After the past couple of weeks of letting up some big numbers, the defense held the Force's playmaking quarterback Lamar Little in check as he only managed to complete 15 of 35 passes for 164 yards and one touchdown. Defense also gathered six turnovers (4 Int's, 2 fumble recoveries) with Damian Daniels, Guesly Dervil, Ramone Nickerson, and Dustin Doe all grabbed interceptions off of Little.

Making arguably two of the game's biggest plays was defensive back Guesly Dervil as he returned both a fumble and an interception back for scores. Dervil's 36-yard interception return for a touchdown back in the 1st quarter put the Lions up for good while his fumble recovery for 30-yards happened in the first drive of the 2nd half.

In total the defense came up with three scores including a team safety on an intentional grounding call in the end-zone. Kicker Trey Crum also added four uno's and was 9 of 10 on extra point attempts.

Columbus' win over Fayetteville sets up a first place showdown with the dreaded Albany Panthers (7-0). As it stands, Albany holds a half game lead over the Lions along with already having beaten Columbus 46-26 back in early April. Lions will head down to Albany next Saturday May 14 with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m.
