Columbus Lions News Release

COLUMBUS- The Columbus Lions have once again looked to the SEC to get a running back. Quayvon Hicks was signed before the season started, excelled, and now finds himself in camp with the Detroit Lions.

This time the Lions signed Auburn product Kamryn Pettway to be their new running back. Pettway will step in immediately and attempt to be a dominant force in the running game for the Lions.

Pettway ran for over 1200 yards and seven touchdowns on his way to an All-SEC selection in 2016. During that breakout season, Pettway became the first Auburn player since Bo Jackson (1985) to post four consecutive 150-yard games. Pettway was named as a semifinalist for the Doak Walker award, which is given to the top running back in the NCAA. While his senior season in 2017 was cut short due to injury, Pettway accumulated 305 yards and six touchdowns in only five games.

Pettway declared for the NFL draft after his redshirt junior season and went undrafted in this year's draft. After being waived by the Minnesota Vikings, the Lions were able to get their man.

Pettway will look to recapture that magic that he had his sophomore season that saw him burst onto the national stage. With a consistent force in the backfield, the Lions hope to have their balanced offense attack ready for this week.

Catch Pettway and all the Lions in action this Saturday night as Columbus is back in the Civic Center hosting the Maine Mammoths.
