B.C. Lions News Release
(Vancouver)- The BC Lions are proud and honoured to safely help thousands of children in need this holiday season.
As part of the pre-game festivities for Friday's clash with the Edmonton Elks, London Drugs and the Vancouver Fire Fighters Charity will be stationed outside Terry Fox Plaza from 5:00-7:30 pm on Friday, November 19th to collect toys.
Fans and members of the public can safely drop off toys and gifts that will go directly to families in need in advance of the holidays.
Said Lions president Rick LeLacheur: "The holiday season can be tough on a lot of people, especially some of those young kids who aren't as fortunate. Having the chance to partner up with London Drugs and the Vancouver Fire Fighters Charity for such a great cause is something our organization takes great pride in. We encourage all fans who are able to contribute to this great cause."
In addition, every fan who donates to the toy drive will be eligible to win either a $100 London Drugs gift card, tickets to a Lions game of their choice in 2022 or a Vancouver Fire Fighters calendar.
"While many families look forward to sharing gifts in person this year, an increasing number of children will be going without presents," says Clint Mahlman, president and COO at London Drugs.
"We hope the Vancouver community will stop by to donate a special gift for a child to unwrap under the tree. Despite the ongoing challenges faced by the pandemic, this is a chance to make the festive season a memorable one for families that are struggling."
Added Vancouver Fire Fighters Charity executive director James Docherty:
"Since 2016, London Drugs and Vancouver Fire Fighter Charities has partnered together to support our community by providing toys for in-need families during the holiday season. Nearly $500,000 in toys has been given to our network of community partners.
Although COVID-19 has forced our society to put aside some of our holiday traditions for now- new traditions have been realized, such as our drive-thru toy drive. Last year, an estimated $50,000 in-kind worth of toys was donated at our inaugural event. We're hoping that in light of the Christmas Wish Breakfast, Vancouverites can rally together to make this a highly successful event."
