NAL Columbus Lions

Lions Look to Take Season Series against Sharks

July 21, 2018 - National Arena League (NAL)
Columbus Lions News Release

The Lions travel to Jacksonville to take on the Sharks in a game that has major playoff implications. Currently the Lions hold a record of 8-4 and sit in a tie for second place. The stretch run is here and with only three games left in the regular season every game is big.

It might be an understatement to say that this matchup is big on many different levels for the Lions. The season series is in favor of the Lions 2-1. However, both wins for Columbus have come at home, getting a road win in Jacksonville this late in the season would be a huge confidence booster for this Lions squad. The Lions have had trouble playing in Jacksonville in the past, losing their last two. A win there would allow for these players to see that they can win big games on the road, which is a very tough thing to do in this league.

These two teams squared off just two weeks ago in Columbus, as the Lions won 48-43. Columbus will see quarterback Patrick McCain again, who has taken over for recently departed Adrian McPherson. McCain will face a daunting Lions defense that has been tough in the red zone. The defense will need consistent pressure to keep McCain off-balance in the pocket.

The Lions offense will look to change its fortune from last week. The Lions were held to under 200 total yards for the first time all season last week and will be ready to show why they are among the NAL's elite. The Lions will be without running back Quayvon Hicks who has received a camp invite from the Detroit Lions and will report immediately. This will be interesting to see what the Lions will do as they have been a balanced attack all season and will miss having the NAL's leading rusher.

It will be a tough, physical game for both teams and will most likely go down to the wire. You can tune in to watch your Lions as the game will streamed live on YouTube and you can find the link on the Columbus Lions Facebook page.
