Columbus Lions News Release
Costly mistakes led to a tough loss for the Columbus Lions against the Massachusetts Pirates on Saturday night. The Lions were unable to overcome a late fumble, as the Pirates won 62-55.
It was a back and forth game all night as the teams traded scores throughout the game. The Lions mounted several comebacks and positioned themselves to win the game. Quarterback Mason Espinosa found wide receiver Durron Neal for a touchdown to give the Lions a 55-48 lead. The Pirates stormed right back down the field to tie it up at 55-48 with just under a minute remaining in the game. After a long completion to Neal, Espinosa threw pass that went backwards and resulted in a fumble with the Pirates recovering. With great field position, the Pirates scored a touchdown in the final seconds to clinch the victory.
This was a tough loss for the Lions as they fall to 5-3 on the season and sit in third place in the NAL standings. The Lions have their work cut out for them and will need to focus as they have the first place Carolina Cobras next week.
