Lions Add Game-Changing Veteran Wide Receiver in Bones Bagaunte

November 8, 2018 - National Arena League (NAL)
Columbus Lions News Release

The Columbus Lions organization and Bones Bagaunte have agreed to terms for the 2019 NAL season. Bagaunte becomes the latest wide receiver to join an organization known for elite wide receiver play. A short peek into the recent history of the Lions shows how wide receivers in Columbus flourish, including one Rookie of the Year award (London Crawford - 2012), 4 Offensive Player of the Year awards (Maurice Dupree - 2012, Terrence Ebagua - 2015, Michael Reeve - 2016/2017), and a bevy of statistical champions (Jarmon Fortson - 2018 NAL leader in receptions/TDs & Durron Neal - 2018 NAL in receiving yards).

Bones Bagaunte (6'2 195 - Cincinnati), formerly known as Marcus Barnett, is a widely respected veteran who became a mainstay in the IFL after dominating the scene for multiple years. Last year, Bagaunte decided to take his talents east, starring for the Massachusetts Pirates of the NAL in 2018. During the 2018 season, Bones finished third in the NAL in all-purpose yards and eighth in the league scoring - all while being known as one of the best entertainers in the business.

Bagaunte is no stranger to elite level play, as he starred collegiately for the University of Cincinnati at a time when the Bearcats were dominating the Big East. Bagaunte almost immediately broke on to the scene for the Bearcats, earning 2nd team All-Big East honors as well as a nod on to the AP Freshman All-American team. During his junior campaign, Bagaunte became a true Ironman, as he started both ways for the Bearcats, becoming the only person on the roster to do so. Bagaunte finished his career at Cincinnati with 48 games played, 127 receptions and 17 Touchdowns.

Stay tuned to see who the Lions will sign next in their quest for the 2019 NAL championship!
