Columbus Lions News Release

With the cancellation of the 2020 NAL season, the Columbus Lions and Head Coach / Director of Football Operations Jason Gibson are looking ahead to the 2021 season. In looking ahead to 2021, the Lions are combing the market for players to bolster an already talented roster. Fitzgerald Mofor, a linebacker from UAB, was signed by Coach Gibson this past week. Mofor started his college at Glenville State, a D2 school, before transferring to UAB after his freshman year. Mofor joined the team as a walk-on but made an immediate impact, starting every game in his first season with the Blazers and recording 71 tackles. "I heard about Fitz from his position coach at UAB last season, I have been trying to get him here for over a year and we finally were able to make it happen," commented Coach Gibson. "His work ethic and ability is what we strive for in Columbus. He reminds me of the Lions Ring of Honor Justen Rivers. Those are big shoes to fill but we are excited to see him try." Mofor's success from his sophomore season continued as he earned a full scholarship and became one of the leaders of a defense that helped revitalize UAB football and finished 2018 with the best record in program history. Mofor started every game during his UAB career and finished with 186 total tackles, including 17.5 for loss, along with 4 sacks and an interception. Mofor went from a walk-on looking for a spot on the roster, to one of the best players in Conference USA. The Lions have added a talented and hardworking linebacker to their roster who could provide great production on the defensive side of the ball in the 2021 season.
