October 21, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
St. John's IceCaps News Release
PROVIDENCE, RI - The St. John's IceCaps topped the Providence Bruins in a 4-1 win at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I.
Charlie Lindgren had a first-star performance, kicking out 50 of the 51 shots he faced. It was Lindgren's first time between the pipes for IceCaps this season.
The IceCaps came out strong, picking up three straight goals. Nikita Scherbak kicked off the scoring with a dandy tally in the first period from Stefan Matteau. Charles Hudon went on to score the game-winner in the second (assisted by captain Max Friberg), while Markus Eisenschmid capitalized on a turnover just 24 seconds later.
The Bruins came out hard in the third, firing 20 shots in the final frame - but could only sneak one past Lindgren. Defenceman Alex Grant potted the lone goal for Providence late in the third. The Bruins pulled netminder Zane McIntyre in the final minutes for the extra man, but the IceCaps answered with an empty-netter from Sven Andrighetto to seal the win for the away team.
The IceCaps continue on the road tomorrow night, facing the Springfield Thunderbirds at 8:35 pm NDT. Catch all the action with broadcaster Brian Rogers at www.stjohnsicecaps.com, 930AM and www.ahllive.com.
