Sussex Skyhawks News Release
AUGUSTA, N.J. - Roger Lincoln gave up just one run on six hits over seven innings to pitch the Skyhawks to a 7-1 victory over the Worcester Tornadoes on Thursday night at Skylands Park. Lincoln walked two and struck out one to pick up his fourth win of the season.
The Skyhawks bullpen of Ed Campusano and Sandy Nin, along with right fielder Maikel Jova, shut down the Tornadoes over the final two innings to preserve the win. Jova threw out Mike MacMillan, who was trying to score from second, in the top of the eighth to stop a Tornadoes rally.
Mark Pappas snapped a 1-1 game in the bottom of the seventh with a two out single to left that scored John Urick from second. Ryan Crespi followed with a single to right, scoring Pappas to make it a 3-1 game. The Skyhawks added four more in the bottom of the eighth on a two-run double to left by catcher Ray Serrano and a two run homer to left by Jeremy Hunt.
Chris Farley went 6 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on six hits to pick up the loss for Worcester.
The Skyhawks and Tornadoes return to action at Skylands Park on Friday for the second game of the four game series. Game time is 6:35 p.m., with a special fireworks show following the game.
