Louisville Lightning News Release
LOUISVILLE, KY (February 4, 2011) -- The Louisville Lightning Professional Arena Soccer League team will host the Detroit Waza Friday night in a grudge match between the two clubs. Louisville is looking to put together a late-season winning streak in hopes of earning a playoff berth, while Detroit hopes to avenge a loss to the Lightning at home just two weeks ago. Kickoff from Mockingbird Valley Sports Complex in Louisville is set for 8 PM.
Much is on the line Friday when the Louisville Lightning and Detroit Waza meet up in PASL play. Louisville is coming off their first home league win of the season last weekend, and after a rough start, the squad is still eyeing a playoff berth. In order to do so, they'll need to take care of business against a talented Detroit Waza team.
Detroit enters the game coming off an 11-7 win over the Winnipeg Alliance on January 23rd. That win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Waza, which included a 10-4 loss to the Lightning the previous weekend. The Lightning, on the other hand, have won two of their last three games and hope to prove the win at Detroit was no fluke.
The two teams also met in game two of the season, with Detroit pulling out a 6-4 win over the Lightning on November 19th. Lightning coach Ted Nichols said this week that his team is much improved since that first meeting, and it's time for desperation soccer with a playoff berth on the line. "We need wins, and we need to keep it going against the Waza this weekend. We're confident and we know we're improving with each game also. Detroit is a good team, but we need fan support and we need to protect our turf Friday night," the coach stated.
Louisville has set attendance records in its previous two home games, and another packed house is expected Friday. Kickoff from Mockingbird Valley is set for 8 PM. For more information, please visit www.louisvillelightning.com.
