Springfield, MA â The Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning in conjunction with the team's American Hockey League affiliate, the Springfield Falcons, today announced the signing of defenseman Terry Virtue. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Virtue, 33, completed his sixth campaign with the Worcester IceCats (1994-98, 2002-04) last season as the franchise's all-time leader in points (210), assists (154), penalty minutes (1,083), and games played (455). The 6'0", 200-pound blueliner served as captain for the Canadian team at the 2004 AHL All-Star Classic in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Virtue registered 22 points (6g, 16a) in 74 games during the season and was named the IceCats' Defenseman of the Year for the third time.
"Virtue will provide tremendous experience and leadership as well as ability to our blue line," said Falcons president and general manager Bruce Landon. "It's another example of the dedication of the Lightning and (Tampa Bay general manager) Jay Feaster in building a strong team in Springfield and creating a winning atmosphere here."
Virtue won back-to-back Calder Cup championships in 1999 with Providence and 2000 with Hartford. He led AHL defensemen in assists (48) while ranking second in points (56) and plus/minus (+34) in 1998-99 with the P-Bruins. Virtue was named a Second Team AHL All-Star for his performance that season.

The Scarborough, Ontario native has recorded 466 points (95g, 371a) and 2,115 PIM in 931 contests in 13 seasons overall as a professional. He has five games of NHL experience between call-ups to Boston and the New York Rangers.
