Stockton Lightning News Release

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Stockton Lightning dropped their inaugural game in arenafootball2 history in a hotly-contested Week 1 tilt, as the Spokane Shock edged the Lightning 41-40 on Thursday night.

Second-year QB Josh Blankenship tossed four touchdown passes, including a short-strike to WR Kenyatte Morgan with 4:28 left in the first quarter for the first touchdown in Lightning history. Stockton kept the game in the balance before halftime when WR/LB James Newson collected an interception and ran it back for a touchdown with 36 seconds remaining in the second quarter, sending both teams knotted at 27-27 at the half.

Stockton's rally attempt late in the fourth quarter was quashed when Blankenship was stuffed on a fourth-and-one quarterback keeper play with one minute left.

Highlighting a game that featured four ties and neither team gaining a lead bigger than seven points, the Lightning also received additional touchdowns from OS George Williams, Morgan, OL Chris Harris and FB/LB Lyndell Hawkins.
