Bakersfield Blitz News Release
First year coach, Gary Compton started off his coaching career and the teams 2006 season with a 60-54 victory over the Everett Hawks in Washington.
"It was a great first win." Head Coach Gary Compton said. "When we first came out we had to take time to settle down. Overall, it feels great to come out with a victory."
The Everett Hawks were first to score in the starting minutes of the game. But it didn't take long for new Blitz quarterback Mike Wall (6-4, 215) to pick it up and gather some completions. Mike proved he was a good decision for the Blitz as he ended the game with 20 out of 31 passes, 260 yards, and 6 touchdown passes. This was a great game for Mike.
Four of Mike's touchdown passes went to offensive specialist Rennard Reynolds (6-2, 190) as he was the star that shined the brightest totaling 5 touchdowns for the Blitz victory. One touchdown sent Rennard diving and flipping over the wall as he caught the ball in the end zone. In the end, he accumulated 8 catches, 120 yards, 4 receiving and 1 rushing to total his 5 touchdowns.
The fourth quarter started off great for the Blitz and team veteran Nick Onaindia (6-3, 245). Nick picked up a sweep toss from Wall and after dodging feet tackles, Nick leaped 5 yards over the Hawks and landed in the end zone. It was an incredible play giving Nick a 16 yard touchdown.
The Blitz will continue their run for the championship at their first home game on Sunday, April 9 when the Blitz battle the Spokane Shock. Kick off is set for 3:00 p.m. at Rabobank Arena. The first 5,000 fans will receive a Blitz schedule magnet and thunder stick.
Season tickets for the Blitz 2006 season are on sale now, as well as single game tickets. Ticket plans start as low as $80 and single game tickets are as low as $10 in the lower bowl. Tickets will be available at the Rabobank Arena box office and any Ticketmaster location. To learn more about the Blitz and their 2006 season visit bakersfieldblitz.com for more information.
