The IronPigs (63-75) play Game 1 of a two-game series against the second-place Pawtucket Red Sox (76-62), who currently hold a 2.0-game lead for the Wild Card... With a 5-4 win over Syracuse last night, the Pigs took the five-game series, 3-2, and have now emerged victorious in four of their last five contests overall. Still, the Pigs have gone 5-10 in their last 15 affairs following a 9-3 in a span from July 30-August 11. Lehigh Valley has posted a 34-50 since May 30 -- falling from second place and 0.5 GB in the North to last place and 15.5 GB... Pawtucket -- Boston's top affiliate -- won 9-3 last night in Buffalo to take the final two games and split the four-game series at Coca-Cola Field. Prior to these last two victories, the Paw Sox endured a 3-7 stretch. The Paw Sox have gone 37-21 since June 25 (39-41) -- going from 10.0 GB to 2.5 GB of Syracuse. They even earned a one-day share of first place in the North on both July 31 and August 11. The Paw Sox, who swept the last series in Allentown (a two-game set July 23-24), have won seven of the last eight against the Pigs.

In a rematch of a Pigs' 7-3 win on 8/22, LHP Greg Smith (8-10, 4.50) will start for LHV against RHP Steven Wright (5-4, 3.13).
