Pensacola Pelicans News Release
The Pelicans announced today they have signed left-handed pitcher Bubba Dobson to contract for the 2006 season.
Dobson has become the "work horse" for the Pelicans being able to pitch in nearly every other game over his last two seasons. For two consecutive seasons, Dobson has led the league with the most appearances with 44 games in 2004 and 47 in 2005.
In 2005, Dobson finished the regular season with a perfect record of 4-0 with two saves. The Mississippi native compiled a 3.98 ERA, struck out 54 batters and walked only 17 in 61 innings of relief. Dobson had an eight-game streak in which he did not give up a run and gave up only four hits, lowering his ERA to an astounding 2.41.
His highlight game came against the Jackson Senators on June 9th. Coming out of the bullpen for three and a third innings, Dobson gave up no runs on two hits while striking out four to record his third win of the season.
"Any team would benefit from having Bubba on their pitching staff," said Pelicans General Manager George Stavrenos. "He wants the ball and thrives on the opportunity to come into the game in tough situations."
