Lexington Sporting Club News Release
Lexington Sporting Club suffered a 3-2 defeat at Breese Stevens Field in Madison, Wi., against Forward Madison FC, ending the club's five-match unbeaten streak.
The loss brings the club's record to 3-6-5 (14 points), standing at 9th in the league standings. The result saw Forward Madison improve to 6-3-4 (22 points) and take 2nd in the league.
Lexington SC entered the match on the back of a 2-2 draw on the road against the league leaders North Carolina FC, extending the club's unbeaten streak to five matches.
It would be the home side who struck first when Nazeem Bartman found the back of the net in the 18th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
Things would then get worse for Lexington SC when Jacob Crull added a second Flamingo goal in the 35th to put the home side up 2-0.
Unwilling to back down, Lexington SC got back into the match when Nico Brown found the back of the net after an assist from the captain Charlie Machell.
The celebration would be cut short however when Christian Chaney gave the home side another after a defensive mistake, putting the boys in green down 3-1.
Lexington nearly scored a second right before the halftime whistle when Ates Diouf found the net after a free kick by Machell, but the Senegalese forward's potential fourth goal of the season was called offside.
It would once again be Brown with the heroics for Lexington in the 60th minute, scoring the second brace in club history after an assist by Khalid Balogun.
Things would continue to look promising for the visitors when Madison picked up a red card, assigned to Mauro Cichero, in the 64th minute, forcing the Flamingos to play the remainder of the match shorthanded.
Unfortunately for the boys in green a third goal was not in the cards and time eventually ran out, handing Madison a third straight win and closing the book on Lexington's five-match unbeaten run.
Lexington SC controlled the possession in the match, holding the ball 59% of the time, while Forward Madison won in expected goals, seeing a 0.38 to 0.35 advantage.
Next up for Lexington SC is a return to Toyota Stadium to face off against Tormenta FC on July 2 with the club looking to begin a new unbeaten streak.
