Reading Express News Release

Reading, Pa. (October 5, 2011) -Reading Express Head Coach Mark Steinmeyer, who cut his teeth with the team as defensive coordinator the past couple of season, has added the second piece of his defense for the 2012 season. Levin Neal will join the defensive backfield for the 2012 Express season.

Neal started his college career at North Carolina State, then transferred to East Carolina University for his final year of eligibility. In the 2009 season at ECU, Neal played primarily the safety position in 12 games and is credited with two interceptions, one of which was returned for a score. He also broke up six passes and forced a fumble, and recorded a total 63 tackles.

At N.C. State, Neal experienced significant playing time at cornerback and on special teams. In all, Neal played in 27 games with five starts at N.C. State.

"Levin brings a great deal of experience in the secondary to our defensive backfield," said Mark Steinmeyer, head coach of the Reading Express. "He can play either corner or safety and plays the game at a higher speed. He will be a important piece of our defensive unit."

Neal is the cousin of former Pittsburgh Steelers center Dermonte Dawson and nephew of former Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Art Still.

The Reading Express are one of the most established franchises in indoor football. In six full seasons, the team has amassed an overall record of 73-27 with five division championships, two conference titles and the 2009 AIFA National Championship. In 2011, Reading began play as a new member of the Indoor Football League and captured the league's Atlantic Division title. The team plays on The Reading Hospital Medical Group Field at Sovereign Center in Reading, Pa.
