Legare, Orloski named players of the week

SportsTicker, the official statistician of the Can-Am League, has named Quebec OF Simon Legare and New Jersey RHP Joe Orloski Batter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the week of August 15-21.
Legare went 14-for-22 with two doubles, a home run and 7 RBI as the Capitales went 3-3 on the week. Sunday in Quebec's 17-5 rout of the Grays, the Laval, Quebec, resident went 4-for-4 with a double and three runs scored. Legare currently hitting .275 with five home runs and 24 RBI in 49 games played.
Signed out of the Capitales' tryout camp, this is Legare's first season in professional baseball. He played previously for the Quebec Diamants of the Quebec Elite League.
Orloski was stellar on Wednesday vs. Elmira, limiting the Pioneers to two unearned runs on seven hits in eight innings of work, striking out nine and getting the win as the Jackals cruised to a 9-2 victory. Saturday vs. New Haven County, Orloski pitched four perfect innings in relief, facing the minimum 12 batters. The 25-year-old is seventh in the Can-Am League with a 3.35 ERA and leads the league with 115.2 innings pitched.
The Las Vegas, Nev., native was a sixth-round pick of Toronto in the 1998 draft and spent five years in the Blue Jays organization, reaching as high as AA; he has also spent time in the New York Yankees, New York Mets and Florida Marlins organizations. Last season, he pitched for Trenton of the Eastern League and Jupiter of the Florida State League. This is his first season in independent baseball.
