Faison sold to Yankees
Published on August 22, 2005 under Central Baseball League (Central League) News Release
Jackson OF Vince Faison has been bought by the New York Yankees organization, making him the fifth Central League player this season to be sold to a major-league organization, after Fort Worth's Kevin Lynn (Tampa Bay), Edinburg's Aaron Sisk (Chicago Cubs), El Paso's Andy Torres (Florida) and Shreveport's Dusty Dossett (Kansas City). Faison will report to Class A Tampa of the Florida State League.
The Lyons, Ga., native hit .303 with 15 home runs and 66 RBI in 83 games for the Senators, leading the league with 11 triples and finishing fourth with a .579 slugging percentage.
Originally a first-round draft pick of San Diego in 1999, Faison, 23, spent five years in the Padres organization, reaching as high as AA Mobile in 2002 and 2003. After the 2003 season, he was shipped to the Seattle organization, and played with four different clubs, including AAA Tacoma, in 2004. 2005 was Faison's first season in independent baseball.
