Lee Headed to Triple A
July 4, 2003 - Southern League (SL1)
Huntsville Stars News Release
Huntsville, AL â Huntsville's five-year left-hander Derek Lee received the call Thursday night. Today he packed his bags and headed to Triple-A Indianapolis. Selected to the 2003 Southern League West All-Star team, Lee departs Huntsville with a league-best 11 victories.
Lee is the Stars' career record holder in appearances, innings pitched, wins, losses, strikeouts and walks. This season, Lee added another notable record to his Huntsville legacy, becoming the fastest Star to 10 victories in the 19-year history of the club.
Taking Lee's place on the West all-star team is the Stars' primary closer Mike Adams. Adams suffered a loss last night in his first start in 87 professional appearances last night in Birmingham.
Infielder Alejandro Machado will assume Lee's spot on the Stars' roster Saturday night. Milwaukee acquired Machado Wednesday night in a deal that sent big-league reliever Curtis Leskanic to Kansas City. Machado, member of the Royals' 40-man roster, was hitting .287 with 13 doubles, one homer, 31 runs batted in and 19 steals over 78 games at Double-A Wichita in the Texas League.
Individual game tickets, season ticket packages, group outings, picnics and promotional opportunities are available for the remainder of the 2003 season. For further information, stop by the Stars office at Joe Davis Stadium, call (256) 882-2562 or visit www.huntsvillestars.com.
