LeBron Returns to Lumberjacks

Bangor, ME- The Bangor Lumberjacks announced today the signing of outfielder Juan LeBron to a contract. The veteran of eight minor league seasons brings power and experience to the Lumberjacks lineup. To make room for LeBron on the roster, the Lumberjacks released OF/1B Bryan Britt.

LeBron joined the Lumberjacks last June following his release from the Seattle Mariners organization, and hit .350 for the Jacks with 5 home runs and 20 RBI in 26 games, before having his contract purchased by the St. Louis Cardinals. LeBron finished the 2002 season with the Cards' Double-A affiliate in New Haven, CT, hitting .262-3-12.

Originally a first round selection by the Royals in the 1995 draft (19th overall), Juan started this year with the Campeche Pirates of the Mexican League, where he hit .281 with 8 home runs and 32 RBI. The Mexican League season recently ended, making LeBron available for the Jacks.

"Juan did a great job for us last year before having his contract purchased by the St. Louis Cardinals. We are excited that we are adding another legitimate power threat to our lineup," stated Lumberjacks General Manager Curt Jacey.

LeBron is expected to join the club in Allentown, PA this weekend as the Jacks begin the second half of play.

Britt had hit .156 with two home runs and seven RBI since signing with the Lumberjacks two weeks ago.

The Lumberjacks begin the second half of the 2003 Northeast League season on Friday, July 11 in Allentown for three games against the Ambassadors. The Jacks return to Mahaney Diamond on Friday, July 18 to take on the first half South Division Champion New Jersey Jackals at 7:15 PM.
