The St. John's Maple Leafs begin the Best-of-7 2004 Calder Cup North Division Semi-Final on Wednesday when the team plays the Manitoba Moose (Vancouver Canucks affiliate) at Mile One Stadium. Game 2 is set for Friday.
The Maple Leafs make its first appearance in the Calder Cup playoffs since the 2001-02 season. The club finished the season in 2 nd place in the North Division with a 46-28-1-5 record (98PTS). The Leafs set franchise records for wins in a season (46) and home wins (28). St. John's was led by David Ling (28-60=88) and Kyle Wellwood (38-49=87), who finished 3 rd and 4 th respectively in AHL scoring. The Moose finished in 3 rd place in the North Division with a 44-26-3-7 record (98PTS). The Moose were led by Peter Sarno (16-66=82), who finished 6 th in AHL scoring.
These 2 clubs met 8 times during the season, with both winning 4 games .
