Hartford Colonials News Release
JACKSONVILLE, FL - Friday, December 24 - The National Football League's Philadelphia Eagles have added to their explosive team by signing Hartford Colonials cornerback/kick returner GERARD LAWSON and adding him to the active roster.
The electric Lawson signed with Hartford on September 26, and saw action in six games with the Colonials, including two starts. He made an immediate impact with Hartford, returning his first United Football League interception 41 yards for a touchdown at home against the Florida Tuskers on October 9.
Following the Colonials' 33-20 loss to the Tuskers in Lawson's first UFL game, Hartford head coach/general manager Chris Palmer said, "He has come in and done an excellent job. He is a crafty defensive back. That interception return for a touchdown was excellent."
The opportunistic Lawson finished the 2010 UFL season seventh in the league in all-purpose yards (524) and sixth in kickoff return average (21.0). He also finished the season with eight solo tackles and three pass breakups.
Prior to his time in Hartford, Lawson played two seasons with the Cleveland Browns after joining them as an undrafted free agent in 2008. In 20 games with the Browns in 2008 and 2009, Lawson had three tackles, eight kickoff returns for 115 yards and a punt return for four yards.
