Lawrence Moten to coach against the RazorSharks

(Rochester, NY)...Lawrence Moten, former Syracuse University basketball legend ('91-'94), will be back in western New York, but this time it will be coaching the Maryland Nighthawks (PBL) against the Rochester RazorSharks this Thursday, February 21st at 7:05pm at the Blue Cross Arena. Moten was teammates with former Rochester RazorSharks guard, Lazarus Sims ('05-'07), for each of their four years at Syracuse. Sims had his RazorSharks number 3 jersey retired on January 24, 2008, which now hangs from the rafters at the Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester Community War Memorial.

Moten is the all-time leading scorer at Syracuse with 2,334 points, as well as the Big East Conference all-time scorer with 1,405 points. Moten scored in double figures in an impressive 118 of 121 games. He is the only player in Syracuse University history to score 500 points or more in four consecutive seasons.

Moten was selected in the 1995 NBA draft as the 7th pick in the 2nd round (36th overall) by the Vancouver Grizzles. He played two seasons for Vancouver and had a brief stint with the Washington Wizards in 1997, averaging 6.3 points for his career. Moten has played overseas for teams in Spain, Venezuela and has since played in the CBA, NBDL, and most recently for the very same Maryland Nighthawks ('05-'06) of the ABA that he'll be leading onto the court this Thursday night.

Thursday night's game is College Night, sponsored by Rochester's Cable Channel, CW-16. College students will be able to purchase discounted general admission tickets for $5 when they present their student ID at the Blue Cross Arena Box Office. The first 500 fans will receive a free RazorSharks hat, sponsored by the CW-16. The RazorSharks game can be seen live at 7:00pm on Time Warner Sports Network Channel 26. Also, tune in to Hot Talk 1280AM WHAM for the live play-by-play broadcast with Rochester RazorSharks announcer, Gene Battaglia and color analyst, Ed Baron. Shark ball! It's FIN-TASTIC!
