Edmonton Capitals News Release
Calgary, AB - The Edmonton Capitals got yet another solid performance from veteran starting pitcher Lou Pote, but the Calgary Vipers won their third straight game over their provincial foes with a 3-2 decision on Wednesday at Foothills Stadium.
Pote, Edmonton's 2009 and 2010 MVP, took his perfect 2-0 record into Wednesday's action and scattered two runs and four hits over seven innings while striking out eight Vipers. But reliever Tom Boleska surrendered a run in the bottom of the eighth and Calgary closer Claudio Galva shut the door in the ninth to give the Vipers the one-run victory.
Right fielder Tom Collaro led the way offensively for the Caps, as he hit his second home run of the season and also smacked a pair of doubles. Third baseman Matt Rogelstad chipped in with two hits in a losing cause. Vipers clean-up hitter Drew Miller hit a double and drove in a run to lead the way for his squad.
The Caps (6-5) return to the friendly confines of TELUS Field Thursday through Monday to play a five-game series at home against the North American League North Division-leading Lake County Fielders (10-2), who are owned by actor Kevin Costner.
The first game of the series is another Thirsty Thursday presented by Hudsons Canadian Tap House and 100.3 The Bear, featuring beer on sale for just $3. Game time is 7 p.m. The series continues with evening games on Friday and Monday, and also includes two weekend afternoon games with 2 p.m. starts on Saturday and Sunday.
The Capitals are the city's most affordable entertainment option in the summer featuring Edmonton's largest patio! Season seats start at less than $9 per seat. Individual game tickets start at $10 in advance and can be purchased at the Capitals Box Office (10233 - 96 Ave) during regular business hours Monday through Friday, at any Ticketmaster location, online at capsbaseball.ca or via phone at 780-414-GOAL (4625).
