Late Three-Pointer Gives Heat Win
October 26, 2002 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Harrisburg Heat News Release
Baltimore, MD - Midfielder Horacio Robledo made his first MISL goal a memorable one, as the 23-year old rookie scored the game-winner on a three-point goal at 12:46 of the fourth to pull his Harrisburg Heat past the archrival Baltimore Blast by the score of 9-8 before 3,162 fans at Baltimore Arena on Saturday night. With the win, the Heat moves to 2-2 on the year, while the Blast falls to 2-4 with the loss. Doug Petras (13 saves) started in net for Harrisburg, but it was Martin Hernandez (1-0) who recorded the victory as the sixth attacker. Scott Hileman (2-4) takes the loss, making 21 stops.
The Blast raced out to a 4-0 lead midway through the first, thanks to 2pgs from Jason Dieter (5:08) and Paul Wright (8:00). Harrisburg got a pair back late in the quarter, when Renato Pereira redirected a Genoni Martinez restart feed past Hileman at 14:57, and Baltimore led 6-2 after one.
Solid goalkeeping and ball possession characterized the second quarter. Former Heat star Gino DiFlorio accounted for the only scoring of the stanza when he took a Lance Johnson cross and popped it high over Petras at 5:58 for a 6-2 Blast lead at halftime.
Martinez found Pereira again at 2:16 of the third, this time on the post for a tap-in, to narrow the gap to 6-4. Lee Tschantret answered for Baltimore with a 2pg of his own at 7:54, and the hosts held an 8-4 advantage at the end of three quarters.
The Heat's final comeback began when Chris Morman took a back heel feed from Ato Leone and pounded home a deuce with four minutes to play to bring the Heat to within 8-6, and the Heat resorted to the sixth attacker (Martin Hernandez) shortly thereafter. With Hernandez in, Martinez struck a low drive that was deflected across the field to a waiting Robledo, who cranked a three-point drive just under the crossbar to give the Heat a 9-8 lead.
The Blast then introduced Sean Bowers as their sixth attacker, but the Harrisburg defense remained strong as the clock wound down, and the Heat moved to .500 on the young MISL season.
