Late Rally Falls Short against the Crosscutters

Norwich, CT - Keider Montero (Loss,0-1) pitched a career-high six innings in his second start of the season, but the Connecticut Tigers (20-25) fell to the Williamsport Crosscutters (16-29) by a final score of 2-1. Montero surrendered two runs on six hits with six strikeouts to no walks for Connecticut in the contest.

Williamsport got on the board early for the third-straight night. In the second inning, DJ Stewart delivered an RBI on a sacrifice fly to score the first run of the contest.

The Crosscutters added to their lead in the third inning on a solo-home run off the bat of Kendall Simmons. This was Simmons second home run in the past two nights.

The first two pitchers for the Crosscutters, Chris Micheles and Spencer Van Scoyoc (Win, 1-1) combined to allow one run through the first seven innings of the contest. Micheles went four innings giving up three hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

The Tigers got the lone run of the game off of Van Scoyoc on a wild pitch to score Riley Greene. Van Scoyoc went three innings giving up one unearned run on one hit with a walk and two strikeouts. Greene finished the night 1-for-3 with a hit-by-pitch.

The Tigers threatened in the ninth inning against Brett Schulze (Save, 1). After a hitless and scoreless eighth inning, Eliezer Alfonzo and Avery Tuck delivered back-to-back singles to put runners at first and third with one out. Jordan Verdon walked to load the bases for Connecticut in the frame.

Schultze got a ground ball against the next hitter to end the game on a four-six-three double play for the Tigers. Schultze pitched two innings surrendering two hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

The Connecticut Tigers will be back in action tomorrow night when they hit the road to take on the Batavia Muckdogs for the first time this year.
