Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release
Kenosha, WI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters got the bats hot late as they took game one against the Kenosha Kingfish 10-7 on Wednesday.
The Pit Spitters took a 6-5 lead in the season series. They need to win tomorrow to win the season series. They split 6-6 with the Kingfish last season.
The Pit Spitters loaded the bases in the first with just one out. After a strikeout, Kenosha committed a critical error to allow TC to take the lead, although the bases would get left loaded. Kenosha would tie it in the bottom half and take a 4-1 lead after two.
Jacob Charon led off the fourth with a double. He would come around to score on a Michael Tchavdarov sac fly. In the fifth, the Pit Spitters would get third and second with one out. A run would score on a wild pitch, but the tying run would be left on third.
A Kenosha home run made it 5-3 in the bottom of the fourth, but Traverse City would storm back. With two outs and two on in the sixth, Alec Atkinson hit a fly ball to center field that should have ended the inning. But the center fielder lost the ball in the sky, allowing the ball to drop and Atkinson to get into second base with a two-run double. The next batter Evan Orzech would single home Atkinson for the lead.
Once again, Kenosha answered in the bottom half to tie it. But the Pit Spitters would score for the fourth straight inning to take the lead. With a full count and on the seventh pitch of the at bat, Glenn Miller singled to center field to score two. Miller would later score on a bases loaded walk. Orzech came through again with a sac fly for his second RBI, making it a 10-6 ballgame.
From there, the pitching was solid. Ryan Insco and Mitch White combined for two scoreless innings to get the game to the ninth. In the ninth, Anthony Ramirez got two strikeouts before allowing three straight hits. He would leave the tying run at the plate to end the game.
