Seattle Sounders FC News Release

SEATTLE, WASH. - A late goal from forward Jordan Morris - his third in as many MLS matches - propelled Seattle Sounders FC (3-4-1, 10 points) to a 1-0 shutout win over Columbus Crew SC (2-4-2, 8 points) Saturday afternoon on the Xbox Pitch at CenturyLink Field. The 88th-minute strike gives Morris a team-leading three goals this season, as the Rave Green have lost just once in their last five matches (2-1-2). Seattle returns to action next week with another home contest on Saturday, May 7 against Western Conference rival San Jose Earthquakes (7:00 p.m. PT / Q13 FOX, Univision-Seattle, KIRO Radio 97.3 FM, El Rey 1360 AM).

Several close chances for both sides did not produce a goal in the first 45 of minutes of play, as the two sides went into the halftime intermission scoreless.

Morris decided the contest in the 88th minute of play by bagging his third goal in as many games, as the Mercer Island native pounced on a loose ball inside Crew SC goalkeeper Steve Clark's six-yard-box, slamming his shot into the back of the net to secure all three points for the home side.

Substitute Erik Friberg unlocked the attack for Seattle, playing a piercing through ball down the left flank into the feet of fullback Joevin Jones. The Trinidad and Tobago international squared a cross that was initially received by Oalex Anderson, but Clark was up to the initial challenge. Unfortunately for the Crew SC netminder, Morris jumped on to rebound to earn his third professional goal since signing for his hometown club in January.

Seattle is now 5-3-3 all-time against Crew SC, including a 2-2-2 record at CenturyLink Field. The Rave Green are 3-0-0 against Eastern Conference clubs this season, having previously won contests against the Montreal Impact and the Philadelphia Union.

Sounders FC returns week with another home match on the Xbox Pitch at CenturyLink Field, this time against Western Conference rival San Jose Earthquakes. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. PT with television coverage on Q13 FOX beginning at 6:30 p.m. PT. Fans can also tune in to catch the match live on Univision-Seattle, KIRO Radio 97.3 FM and El Rey 1360 AM.
