Late Inning Rally Gives Suns 3-2 Win

PITTSFIELD, MA (June 29, 2014) - The Pittsfield Suns scored one run in both the eighth and ninth inning to overcome a 2-1 deficit and beat the Nashaua Silver Knights by a final score of 3-2 at Wahconah Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Silver Knights were the first to score in the third inning. Jimmy Ricoy led off the inning with a single and would score three batters later as Guy Davidson hit a towering two out homerun to give Nashua a 2-0 lead.

Pittsfield cut the lead in half in the fourth when Zach Tower sent a ball flying over the left field fence. The home run would be the first at Wahconah Park for the Suns and second for Tower who has been on a tear as of late, going 5-13 with four RBIs in his last three games.

The rest of the scoring would come in the eighth and ninth innings. The Suns were able to get one run across in the eighth, despite leaving the bases loaded, to the tie the game at two. The winning run came in the ninth. After Dan Cellucci smacked a one out double, pinch hitter Dan Palazzo would step up and hit a single to drive in the winning run, for a 3-2 final score.

Suns pitcher Nate Spielvogel (1-2), who would come on in the ninth inning, was awarded the win. Starter Perry Kulaga (1-3) and Oliver Collette (0-0) pitched four innings each for Pittsfield, relinquishing a total of seven hits, two runs, three walks, while striking out nine. Eddie Dionne (0-1) recorded the loss.

The Suns are back at Wahconah Park this Tuesday, July 1st for Military Appreciation Night and Shirt Off Our Back Night.
