Late Inning Outburst Pushes Cavemen Past Sliders

June 2, 2012 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Springfield Sliders News Release

The Springfield Sliders dropped their first game of a four game home stand tonight to the Hannibal Cavemen 15-8. Things started off well for the Sliders as SS Michael Hurwitz hit a 3-run home run in the third to give the Sliders a 3-0 lead. However, by the sixth inning the Cavemen had tied the game at 3. The Cavemen then scored 4 runs in the seventh to go up 7-3. Hurwitz cut the lead to 7-5 with his second home run of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. Both of his home runs went to the opposite field and he hit one from each side of the plate. The eighth inning ended up being the big inning for Hannibal. Springfield committed four errors to help Hannibal pick up 8 more runs to put the game out of reach. The Sliders would pick up 3 runs in the ninth but their comeback efforts would fall short. Ryan Powers came out of the Hannibal bullpen to pick up the victory and Cody Repenning took the loss. The Sliders will be back in action at Robin Roberts Stadium tomorrow, when they take on the Hannibal Cavemen again at 5:05.
