Fresno FC News Release
TULSA, Okla. - It was déja vu for the Foxes, who conceded another late equalizer against the Roughnecks to settle for a 1-1 draw at ONEOK Field on Saturday evening.
Leading 1-0 after an own goal at the 90th minute, Fresno FC saw two points slip from its grasp as Tulsa's Isaac Diaz put away the tying goal.
The Foxes leave Oklahoma with two points and fall into ninth place at 7W-7L-9D with 30 points. San Antonio FC (8-5-7) jumped Fresno in the Western Conference table with a 2-1 win over OKC Energy FC. On the Foxes' heels is Colorado Springs (8-12-4), who sit in 10th with 28 points after losing 1-0 to Rio Grande Valley FC Toros.
The Foxes grabbed the lead at the 63rd minute as Danny Barrera's shot ricocheted off Tulsa's Brandon Servania and into the back of the net for an own goal. The play was set up on a free kick as Juan Pablo Caffa found Barrera on a run into the box, before his shot went off Tulsa goalkeeper Fabian Cerda and then Servania for the score.
Fresno was on the attack, producing 21 shots including four on target against the Roughnecks. Caffa and Christian Chaney led the way at six and five a piece, respectively. Chaney had an early opportunity, hitting the crossbar at the 16th minute. The two connected for several chances, with Chaney also finding Caffa near the end of the first half, only to see Caffa's shot miss wide left. The offensive opportunities continued after the break, with Chaney coming up short at the 62nd minute after receiving a header from Ramon Martin Del Campo.
Barrera added three shots and completed 81.3% of his passes to help anchor the Foxes' midfield alongside Pedro Ribeiro, who finished with four key passes and eight tackles.
Goalkeeper Kyle Reynish kept the Roughnecks off the board early, collecting four massive saves in the first half. He finished with five overall as he and the Foxes push their unbeaten streak to four matches. The 34-year-old goalie made back-to-back stops at the 15th minute, stopping a free-kick shot from Joshua Morton and then collecting the rebound on Morton's header.
Franck Tayou played his first professional game against his older brother Uzi Tayou. Franck entered the match as a substitute for Chaney at the 65th minute and was immediately marked by Uzi, who started at center back for Tulsa.
Fresno FC returns to the Golden State for its third, and final, regular-season edition of the Highway 99 Derby against Sacramento Republic FC on Aug. 4. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Papa Murphy's Park. It is the third of four-straight road matches for the Foxes, who then visit LA Galaxy II on Aug. 9. The Foxes next home match is Aug. 18 against Saint Louis FC at Chukchansi Park.
EL MEXICANO MAN OF THE MATCH: KYLE REYNISH, GK
Reynish recorded five saves, including four in the first half to keep the Foxes in the match.
