Harrisburg Heat News Release
Harrisburg, PA - The Harrisburg Heat pulled to within 8-7 with eight minutes to play in the game but the Philadelphia KiXX turned away the Heat's sixth-attacker efforts to secure an 11-7 victory over Harrisburg on Sunday night at the Farm Show Arena. With the loss, the Heat falls to 6-8, while the Conference-leading KiXX move to 12-3.
Harrisburg got on the board first, when David Bascome finished a slick give-and-go with Ato Leone for a 2pg at 9:27 of the first quarter. It was the only time the Heat led in this contest; Harrisburg did not dent the twine again until the fourth quarter.
In the meantime, Philadelphia methodically built an 8-2 lead through three quarters, thanks to 2pgs from Kevin Sloan (twice), Joel Shanker, and Gary DePalma while goalkeeper Stuart Dobson (11 saves, now 2-1 on the year) remained solid between the pipes.
The Purple and Black found a glimmer of hope when at 1:48 of the fourth, when Genoni Martinez's low drive from three-point land skipped through the KiXX defense, and suddenly Philly's lead had shrunk to 8-5. Bascome's second deuce of the game, a strike from deep in the right corner at 7:22, brought Harrisburg to within 8-7.
Martin Hernandez entered the game as the sixth attacker with just under four minutes to play and the Heat worked the perimeter, creating several quality chances, including a head ball from Bascome with two minutes left that caught Dobson off his line - the former Heat keeper sprinted back into his crease, dove, and swatted the ball away to preserve the lead. Finally, KiXX defender Glenn Carbonara stole the ball along the left wing boards and rolled a long trey into the empty net with just five seconds left to seal the 11-7 win.
Doug Petras made 10 saves in the loss for Harrisburg.
NOTES: The Heat hits the road this Friday, December 13, traveling to Baltimore to face the archrival Blast. Game time at 1st Mariner Arena is 7:35 p.m. Harrisburg returns home the next night, Saturday, December 14, when the San Diego Sockers make their final visit of the year to the Farm Show. Kickoff is set for 7:35 p.m.
