This past week the National Lacrosse League expansion team in Las Vegas was named the Las Vegas Desert Dogs; the National Women's Soccer League's Houston Dash suspended Coach and General Manager James Clarkson indefinitely from an investigation into complaints of abuse, discrimination and harassment; and the Canadian Football League made several rule changes to help increase scoring. Highlights this week are from the National Lacrosse League, Premier Lacrosse League, National Women's Soccer League, Major League Soccer, United Soccer League Championship, Canadian Football League, United States Football League, XFL, Fan Controlled Football, American Hockey League, North American Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Premier Hockey Federation, Women's National Basketball Association, NBA G League and Major League Rugby.
LACROSSE
National Lacrosse League
The National Lacrosse League's 15th expansion team, located in Las Vegas, announced that the team will be known as the "Las Vegas Desert Dogs." The Desert Dogs will begin their first season in December 2022, and the team will play home games at Michelob ULTRA Arena located inside Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. The team's ownership group includes Wayne Gretzky, Dustin Johnson, Steve Nash and Joe Tsai - and oversaw a comprehensive naming process dating back to the franchise's official introduction in June 2021. The team considered over 2,000 fan submissions and conducted surveys throughout Las Vegas to identify Desert Dogs as the name and brand that would best represent the local community.

Premier Lacrosse League
The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) powered by Ticketmaster announced that the 2022 College Draft fueled by Gatorade will air live Tuesday, May 10 at 8 p.m. ET on ESPNU and will be simulcast digitally on ESPN+. Chris Cotter will host the College Draft, which will originate from Studio E in ESPN Digital Center 1, and will be joined by ESPN lacrosse analysts Paul Carcaterra and Ryan Boyle.

National Women's Soccer League
The Houston Dash announced today that it has suspended Head Coach and General Manager James Clarkson, effective immediately. The suspension comes in light of initial findings, received this week, from the joint NWSL and NWSLPA investigation that was launched last year to review current and historic complaints of discrimination, harassment and abuse. An ultimate decision about Clarkson's future with the Dash will be made based on the final results of the ongoing investigation.
The Houston Dash announced the suspension of James Clarkson, the team's head coach and general manager, in the wake of initial findings from an investigation into complaints of abuse, discrimination and harassment.

It was a double dose of disaster for the visitors less than five minutes in, when Sebastian Ferreira struck deftly from near midfield, catching Brad Stuver off his line. Stuver couldn't paw the ball out of goal and subsequently suffered an injury forcing him to exit the match on a stretcher.

Utica City FC announced that the club will not be renewing the contract of Head Coach Ryan Hall. Hall was the Head Coach in Utica for three seasons beginning in 2018. The team would like to thank Hall, as his hard work and dedication were essential to the foundation of the organization. Prior to the club's inaugural season he served as Head Coach of the Syracuse Silver Knights for the 2017-18 campaign. Hall was a student-athlete at Syracuse University and began playing professionally in 2003.

Champions Indoor Football
At the beautiful Hampton hotel and Convention Center, officials from South Dakota, Pick-Six Entertainment, LLC announced their plans to launch a new professional indoor football team in Mesquite for the 2023 season. The yet-to-be-named team will be involving local business leaders and will play at the Mesquite Rodeo Arena beginning in March of next year. The group announced not only their arrival; but, also plans to hire a local staff, involve local business leaders, and even have the community name the team through a contest in partnership with G Signs and Graphics of Mesquite.

The Cleveland Monsters announced that veteran Head Coach Mike Eaves will be stepping away from his bench duties following the completion of the 2021-22 season. Eaves has been the head coach of the Monsters the past three seasons, taking over duties as the sixth coach in franchise history on June 18, 2019. "We've been fortunate to benefit from the wealth of experience Mike Eaves has brought to our organization as coach," said Monsters General Manager and Blue Jackets Director of Player Personnel Chris Clark. "He's had an incredible career in coaching and we're appreciative for his contributions guiding our team the past three seasons. ¬Â

The Orlando Solar Bears have mutually agreed to part ways with head coach and general manager Drake Berehowsky, team president Chris Heller announced. "Drake has been a trusted colleague and friend," Heller said. "We thank him immensely for his contributions and helping build a culture within our locker room that has made us a destination for ECHL free agents and for NHL clubs to develop their prospects. His commitment to this organization was always of the highest caliber, and we wish him all the best in the next stage of his career. ¬Â
The South Carolina Stingrays, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Washington Capitals and AHL's Hershey Bears, announced that Brenden Kotyk has been named the 11th Head Coach in franchise history. Kotyk completed the 2021-22 season behind the bench after taking over as the team's Interim Head Coach on March 7th. Since taking over as Interim Head Coach, Kotyk led the team to a 10-8 record which included a season-best five-game win streak, a season-high seven goals against Orlando on April 2nd, and victories in seven of the final nine games to finish out the year.

The Mississippi Sea Wolves Owner Barry Soskin, along with Team President Joe Pace announced Phil Esposito as the new Mississippi Sea Wolves Head Coach. Phil brings an extensive coaching background, including an FPHL Championship win in Danbury in 2013. His coaching career began in 2011 with the Danbury Whalers. Esposito coached Danbury into the FPHL Championship Finals in his first three seasons with the team, four Finals appearances in six seasons in the league.

The Ontario Hockey League announced that Dallas Stars prospect Antonio Stranges of the London Knights is the OHL Player of the Week, leading the League with seven points including three goals and four assists in three playoff games.
United States Hockey League
The Green Bay Gamblers have named Mike Leone as their new head coach and general manager - the eighth in team history. Leone joins the Gamblers from the USA Hockey National Team Development Program where he served as an assistant coach for the past three seasons. Additionally, he served as an assistant coach at the 2021 IIHF Under-18 Men's World Championship.

The Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) announced that Reagan Carey has been appointed the league's next commissioner, bringing over twenty years of leadership in the sports industry to the role including unparalleled experience in women's hockey. Carey previously served as USA Hockey's Director of Women's Ice Hockey and General Manager of the U.S. National Women's Team, highlighted by a gold medal victory at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. Beginning full time on May 10, she will help deliver the PHF's vision to provide leading opportunities in professional women's hockey and growing the sport for its athletes, partners, and fans.

AT&T WNBA All-Star 2022 will be played in Chicago at the Wintrust Arena, home of the defending WNBA Champion Chicago Sky, on Sunday, July 10 (ABC, noon CT/1 p.m. ET), and will be the centerpiece of a weekend full of WNBA activities, the league announced. This marks the first time Chicago will host the WNBA's midseason showcase.
