It was a busy week around the leagues last week as minor league hockey and basketball head into the home stretch, the Alliance of American Football played its third week of games and indoor football began its season.

FOOTBALL

Alliance of American Football

The Alliance of American Football announced that prominent major league sports owner, operator and entrepreneur Tom Dundon has committed $250 million to the dynamic, newly formed professional football league.

XFL

The XFL announced that Pep Hamilton, who has more than 20 years of experience as a football coach in the NFL and with major college programs, has been named the head coach and general manager of the XFL team in Washington, D.C.

Canadian Football League

Italy has joined the parade of gridiron football playing nations pledging to work with the Canadian Football League (CFL) to grow the game.

The Grey Cup has been awarded to the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the City of Regina and the Province of Saskatchewan for 2020 and to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, the City of Hamilton and the Province of Ontario for 2021, the Canadian Football League (CFL) announced.

Arena Football League

The Arena Football League announced the Columbus Destroyers as the official name of the new team in Columbus, Ohio, the most recent addition to the League. Also announced was former AFL player and coach, Matthew Sauk, as the Destroyers' head coach. The Destroyers will begin play in April at the start of the 2019 AFL season.

National Arena League

Jonathan Bane (6'4, 205) signs with the Jacksonville Sharks for his fifth year of arena football and first with the Sharks. Last season, Bane signed with the newly formed Maine Mammoths and became one of the NAL's top quarterbacks, During his time in Maine, Bane started 14 of the team's 15 games completing 249 passes for 2,689 yards, and 59 TDs.

Indoor Football League

Quad City Steamwheelers wide receiver Keyvan Rudd, a Davenport Central grad, makes an acrobatic, one-handed snare while crashing into the end zone wall for a three-yard touchdown from quarterback E.J. Hillard against the San Diego Strike Force.

American Arena League

American Arena League, CEO, Tony Zefiretto has announced the league will not allow the High Country Grizzlies to compete in the American Arena League. The league has specific guidelines that clearly outline the structure for teams to compete in the AAL and for them to remain in "Good Standing."

BASEBALL

Eastern League

The Eastern League of Professional Baseball has announced the league will be changing their playoff format from a full season format to a split season format. Under the new format the first place team from each division during both the first and second halves of the season will qualify for the postseason. This change will go into effect immediately, starting with the 2019 season.

Carolina League

The Carolina Mudcats are proud to introduce to you the Carolina Micro Brews, our rebranded team name for four nights this season. The Micro Brews pay homage to our affiliation with the Milwaukee Brewers and our area's rich history of micro breweries.

SOCCER

National Women's Soccer League

The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and A+E Networks today announced an amicable end to their partnership, to take effect immediately, with one year remaining in their three-year broadcast agreement.

The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) unveiled its complete schedule for the 2019 regular season. The historic seventh season will feature nine teams set to face off in a single table, 24-game regular season - with 12 home games and 12 away games - in which every team will take on each opponent three times.

United Soccer League One

The United Soccer League and ESPN have reached a landmark agreement that will continue the multi-level growth of professional soccer in the U.S. and bring every game of USL League One's inaugural 2019 season to ESPN+, the leading direct-to-consumer sports streaming service.

BASKETBALL

G League

The Atlanta Hawks, city of College Park and the Georgia International Convention Center (GICC) announced the Skyhawks as the official team name of the Atlanta Hawks NBA G League affiliate which will begin play in College Park for the 2019-20 season.

Maine Red Claws guard P.J. Dozier hits a three-point shot at the buzzer in their 112-109 overtime victory over the Delaware Blue Coats. Dozier finished the game with 20 points.

A tip-in by Canton Charge forward Jaron Blossomgane at the buzzer provided the winning margin in their 100-99 victory over the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. Blossomgane led the Charge in scoring with 24 points.

HOCKEY

American Hockey League

Cleveland Monsters center Zac Dalpe has a razzle dazzle move for a 3-2 overtime win over the Milwaukee Admirals:

National Women's Hockey League

Boston Pride forward Jillian Dempsey scored her 29th career goal to become the all-time leading goal scorer in NWHL history, surpassing former teammate Brianna Decker, as the Pride took an 8-1 win over the Metropolitan Riveters on Monday.
