San Diego RB Ja'Quan Gardner, San Diego LB A.J. Tarpley and Birmingham P Colton Schmidt Earn Week Three Honors

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The Alliance of American Football names week three players of the week following a weekend filled with big plays and record-setting performances.

Offensive player of the week: San Diego RB Ja'Quan Gardner. Gardner rushed 12 times for an Alliance single-game record 122 yards (10.2 yards per carry) and one touchdown in the Fleet's 31-11 win last week. Gardner's day was highlighted by an 83-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, the longest rush in Alliance history, as he became the first player with back-to-back 100-yard rushing performances (104 yards in week two).

Defensive player of the week: San Diego LB A.J. Tarpley. Tarpley tied for second on the team with five tackles and had a 27-yard interception return-touchdown, which proved to be the game-winning score, in San Diego's second consecutive home win.

Special teams player of the week: Birmingham P Colton Schmidt. Schmidt punted five times for a 49.2-yard gross average with a long of 57 yards in the Iron's 28-12 week three victory. Schmidt placed three of his five punts inside the 20 last week, tied for the most such punts in a single game in Alliance history, while helping Birmingham control field position throughout the day.
