August 7, 2006 - The New Orleans Zephyrs were shut out by the visiting Las Vegas 51s, with the final score being 3-0.
Vegas starting pitcher and former Zephyr D.J. Houlton (7-9) got the win after giving up only three hits in seven innings. Houlton struck out four batters. Relief pitcher Lance Carter one-hit New Orleans in the final inning to pick up his 14th save of the year.
Offensively the 51s were led by center fielder Matt Kemp, who drove in two runs in a 1-4 effort. Left fielder Nick Alvarez drove in the remaining run of the game.
Center fielder Kenny Kelly went 2-4 in the losing effort for the Zephyrs.
New Orleans starting pitcher Steve Watkins (6-5) records the loss after giving up one run on six hits in six innings of play. Watkins struck out five batters.
With the series tied at 1-1, the teams will have off on Tuesday before picking up on Wednesday in a game scheduled for 7:00 PM CT.
