Hartford Colonials News Release

EAST HARTFORD, CT - May 19, 2011 - The Hartford Colonials resigned defensive end Maurice Fountain and linebacker Danny Lansanah to contracts for the 2011 United Football League season. Terms are not disclosed.

A former standout at UConn, Lansanah returns for his second season with the Colonials. He appeared in all eight games in 2010 and capped his first year in the UFL with a 48-yard interception return for a touchdown in a 27-14 season-ending win over eventual UFL champion Las Vegas. He finished with 23 tackles, broke up four passes and forced one fumble.

"Last year was a great experience," Lansanah said of his first season in the UFL. "People think it's a drop-off in talent because it's not the NFL, but the talent is there. Just being back after playing in college there was a great experience. The fans were great, they remembered me."

Lansanah began his professional career with the Green Bay Packers in 2008, signing with them following the NFL Draft. He was signed to the practice squad at the start of the season and elevated to the active roster in Week 6, playing in five regular season games and making two tackles on special teams. In 2009, he spent time on the practice squads of the Miami Dolphins and Detroit Lions.

At UConn, Lansanah was a three-year starter and All-Big East First Team selection in 2007. He started 34 games and had 323 tackles with 10 interceptions, returning two for touchdowns.

Fountain, who started all eight games in 2010 with the Colonials, returns for his third season in the UFL. He had 24 tackles and tied for the team lead with three sacks. He was signed to the Green Bay Packers practice squad on Dec. 28.

The Colonials currently have 47 players under contract for 2011.
