Hartford Colonials News Release
The Hartford Colonials of the United Football League will assist Connecticut Children's Medical Center and the Nursing Practice Council in a cereal drive June 3-10 as part of a national competition with other hospitals.
As a show of support, the Colonials are asking fans to bring an unopened box or bag of cereal to the Cheerleader Final audition on Saturday, May 21, at Black Bear Saloon in Hartford from 4-7 PM. Individuals who donate cereal will receive a free poster of the Colonials cheerleaders.
To kick off Saturday's show at Black Bear, Colonials running back Andre Dixon and the cheerleader finalists will donate boxes of cereal to the drive. All cereal collected will go to Food Share for distribution throughout Connecticut.
"It's a wonderful opportunity to get involved in the community here in Hartford, and support area children and families," said Brittany Bonchuk, Director of the Colonials Cheerleading Team. "We are hoping to gather a big supply of boxes at the Final audition show, and are glad that Black Bear Saloon is supporting this cause with us. The Connecticut Children's Medical Center does amazing work with children, so we are happy to be a part of this great campaign."
Connecticut Children's will join five hospitals in a competition to see which one can raise the most servings of cereal for their community. The other participating hospitals: Akron Children's Hospital in Ohio; Children's Hospital & Medical Center in Omaha, Neb.; Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.; The Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit; Kaleida Health in Buffalo, N.Y.
