Landon Donovan to be in Ontario Thursday for Fury vs. Sockers
February 7, 2019 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Ontario Fury News Release
Ontario, Calif. - When the Ontario Fury hosts the San Diego Sockers in a crucial Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) clash at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 7, American legend Landon Donovan will be on the bench for the visitors and four-time league champs. Donovan, who was born in Ontario and grew up in the Inland Empire, signed with San Diego just over a month ago and has been working on the training pitch for a successful transition to the indoor game. He will not dress to play for the game at Citizens Business Bank Arena but will travel with the team as part of his preparations for a scheduled February 15 debut.
Tickets to the Fury's highly anticipated meeting with the Socker's may be purchased by heading to www.ontariofury.com or by calling 909-457-0252.
Tied for top all-time goalscorer for the U.S. Men's National Team (57 goals), Donovan was an integral part of the Stars and Stripes for a period of 14 years, captaining the squad for much of that time and shining in three separate FIFA World Cups. The now 36-year-old scored twice in the 2002 tournament en route to a historic quarterfinal appearance, followed by three strikes in the 2010 edition, including the dramatic stoppage time winner over group foes Algeria which sent the Americans through to the knockout rounds.
In addition to starring on the game's biggest stage, Donovan also led the U.S. to four CONCACAF Gold Cup titles and a second place finish at the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup, in the process winning U.S. Soccer Male Athlete of the Year four times, Gold Cup top goalscorer three times and Gold Cup MVP once.
The California native spent the bulk of his club career with the Los Angeles Galaxy, suiting up roughly 250 times from 2005 to 2014 and setting the current all-time Major League Soccer (MLS) goalscoring record at 245. A seven-time MLS Best XI honoree and the 2008 MLS Golden Boot winner, Donovan helped the Galaxy to a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup trophy, two Supporters' Shields and four MLS Cups to add to two league championships dating back to his earlier seasons with the San Jose Earthquakes. The attacking ace was named MLS Cup MVP in two of his final appearances over the years.
As part of the MASL's first nationwide television partnership, Thursday's game between Ontario and Donovan's Sockers will be broadcast live by Eleven Sports. In addition to streaming live on the Twitch platform via its free digital channel Eleven Sports NEXT (www.twitch.tv/elevensportsnext), Eleven Sports is available via national cable/satellite systems (DIRECTV channel 623, AT&T U-verse channel 1665, Verizon Fios channel 597) and other cable and OTT providers (RCN 571, Atlantic Broadband 501, Hawaiian Telcom 1091, Sony PlayStation Vue, FUBO TV).
Tickets to all Fury home games at Citizens Business Bank Arena may be purchased by calling 909-457-0252 or by visiting www.ontariofury.com.
