Bend Elks News Release
Bend, OR - After giving up 2 runs in the top of the 9th, The Bend Elks trailed the Kelowna Falcons 11-6 as they came to the plate in the 9th inning, when the Elks found their timely hitting. The Elks scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 9th inning to send the game into extras, then a walk-off squeeze brought Landon Cray in from 3rd as the Elks erased a 5 run defecit to win 12-11 in 10 innings.
The Kelowna Falcons jumped on the Elks in the third inning trailing 3-1, sending 10 hitters to the plate and scoring 5 runs as Stetson Olson had a 2 run home run and Nathan Robertson had a 2 Run double to give the Falcons a 6-3 lead.
That is where the score stood until the 7th inning, as both teams threw 3 spots on the scoreboard. In the top of the inning, Robertson, who went 3-5 in the game, doubled and scored, Cody Scaggari had an RBI Sacrifice Fly, and the Falcons took a 9-3 lead heading to the bottom part of the inning.
The Elks responded with 3 runs of their own as Cullen O'Dwyer from Arizona State University, had a 2 run single to score Derek Dixon and pinch runner Collin Nilson, and Keach Ballard followed with a Sacrifice Fly to score O'Dwyer, cutting the Falcons lead to 9-6.
Kelowna scored 2 in the top of the 9th inning as Darren Kolk had a 2 run single to score Robertson and Joe Robbins as Kelowna took the lead 11-6.
In the bottom of the 9th inning, Landon Cray and Keach Ballard both singled to put runners on with nobody out, and Chase Fields reached on an error by second baseman Cody Scaggari to load the bases with nobody out. Pitcher Anthony Rice then committed a balk to bring home the first run. Then after Anthony Villa struck out, Derek Dixon followed by reaching on an error to score Ballard, bringing the defecit to 3. Tyler Servais stepped up to the plate and delivered a 2 run double to right center field, scoring both runners and cutting the Kelowna lead to 1. After Turner Gill was retired on a fly out to center field, O'Dwyer delivered the game tying RBI single, scoring pinch runner Collin Nilson from second base to tie the game and send it into extra innings.
In the 11th, Landon Cray started the inning with a single, Keach Ballard drew a walk, and both runners advanced to second and third on a passed ball with Chase Fields at the plate. On the 1-1 pitch, Fields dropped down a bunt down, and the throw home to the plate was fielded by the catcher Reed Lavallee, but in applying the tag on Cray, the ball squirted out of Lavallee's glove and Cray scored to end the game.
The Elks and Falcons will continue the series on Sunday, first pitch at 5:05 p.m.
