Omaha Lancers News Release
OMAHA, NE - The Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) are pleased to announce they have acquired a player to be named later and a 3rd round draft pick in the 2013 USHL Entry Draft in a trade with the Muskegon Lumberjacks. In exchange, Muskegon receives goaltender John Keeney. The player to be named later will report to Omaha at the end of the month.
"We expect that the player we decide upon in the next 10 days will immediately help us offensively," Head Coach/GM Bliss Littler said. "We expect that player to help on the power play and to play in all situations."
The Lancers have now secured three future draft picks through two transactions over the last eight days. In addition to the 2013 selection garnered today, Omaha secured a 2nd round pick in the 2012 USHL Entry Draft along with a compensatory pick in the 2012 Draft last week when the team moved Adam Chlapik to the Tri-City Storm. Littler added that the additional draft picks could be used to acquire additional players down the road.
The Lancers will employ an emergency goaltender this weekend to play alongside current Omaha netminder Alex Lyon. Lyon has earned his spot in the Lancers crease after an impressive start to the 2011-2012 season. Through the first three weeks of the season, the Baudette, Minnesota native is 1-0-1 with a 0.00 goals-against average coupled with a 1.00 save percentage. Lyon was named Reebok USHL Goaltender of the Week last week after a 27-save 1-0 shutout of the Fargo Force for his first career USHL win.
"Alex has had a very nice start to the season," Littler said. "And has earned the opportunity to be the number one goaltender for this team. In addition to Alex, the Lancers are pleased to welcome goaltender Thatcher Demko who is expected to join the team early next week."
Demko will come to Omaha by way of the Los Angeles Jr. Kings U16 team.
Omaha (2-1-1, 5 pts.) returns to action tomorrow evening when the Lancers return to the Omaha Civic Auditorium for a 7:05 pm rematch with Fargo. Tickets for Friday's game are available for purchase at the Century Link Center (formerly Qwest Center) Box Office Monday - Friday, 10 AM - 6 PM, at the Omaha Civic Auditorium Box Office Friday morning beginning at 10 AM and through Ticketmaster.
