Des Moines Buccaneers News Release
Urbandale (IA) At its basic root, getting a haircut is simply a cosmetic act but thanks to the Des Moines Buccaneers and SportClips it will now be an altruistic action as well.
The Des Moines Buccaneers and SportClips are teaming together to support the Operation Uplink campaign which funds phone cards used by military overseas to reach loved ones back home. At the Buccaneers' October 29th and November 5th home games fans will be able to get FREE haircuts done by SportClips' stylists in the Buccaneer Arena concourse. While the haircuts are free, tips are encouraged with ALL tips earned by the stylists going to the Operation Uplink campaign.
Fans who simply don't want their hair cut at the game, will also be able to directly donate to the program.
"SportClips approached us with the idea over the summer and we thought it was a no-brainer to do" says Buccaneers' broadcaster and marketer Scott Montesano. "As the official haircut of the Buccaneers', SportClips has been a great partner and this is another example of why."
Both games begin at 7pm with the Buccaneers' facing Tri-City on October 29th and Chicago on November 5th. Haircuts will be available beginning at 6:15pm both nights and continue through the end of the second intermission.
The Buccaneers have also declared November 5 to be "Military Family Appreciation Night" and thanks to the generous support of a number of area companies, will be giving approximately 200 tickets to Central Iowa military families. Active and retired military personnel may also purchase tickets for only $9 by showing a valid military ID.
The Buccaneers are 1-3-1 on the season and return to the ice on Saturday night in Ann Arbor, MI against the U-18 Team USA squad. The Buccaneers are back home on Saturday Oct. 29 against Tri-City.
The Des Moines Buccaneers are playing their 32nd consecutive season in the United States Hockey League this season. Since 1980, the Buccaneers have produced hundreds of NCAA Division I players and dozens of professional alumni.
